SQL Server 2008 / SQL Server 2005

Microsoft SQL Server is a next-generation data management and analysis solution: It helps organizations deliver increased value to their business by decreasing the amount of effort required to maintain reliable systems. SQL Server 2005 already supports some of the most demanding systems in the world and, while SQL Server 2008 was only released towards the end of last year, many companies are already committed to implementing the new version as the critical database engine at the core of their business systems.

Microsoft Access 2007

Part of the Microsoft Office suite, Access is used for rapid application development, especially for the creation of prototypes and standalone applications. Access does not scale well if data access is via a network, so applications that are used by more than a handful of people tend to rely on a Client-Server based solution such as SQL Server. However, an Access "front end" (the forms, reports, queries and VB code) can be used against a host of database backends, including Access itself, SQL Server, Oracle, and any other ODBC-compliant product. This approach allows us to move a matured application's data to a more powerful server at a later date without sacrificing the development already in place.
